Oscars Will Now Air All The Show’s Categories Live, Reversing Decision

The Academy Awards will be airing all of the categories presented at its Feb. 24 Oscars show live after it faced sharp criticism for a decision to present some awards during commercial breaks. “The Academy has heard the feedback from its membership regarding the Oscar presentation of four awards,” the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in a statement Friday, noting that all awards “will be presented without edits, in our traditional format.” Academy officials had announced Monday that four award categories ― cinematography, makeup and hairstyling, film editing and live-action short ― would be presented during the show’s commercial breaks. Critics were swift to denounce the decision as discrediting the work of people behind the camera and giving less due to underrepresented vo...

In ‘Isn’t It Romantic,’ Brandon Scott Jones Flips The Gay Bestie Trope On Its Head

When it comes to skewering stereotypes, Brandon Scott Jones is a natural.  The Maryland-born actor is a standout in “Isn’t It Romantic,” a new romantic comedy that aims to skewer and deconstruct the stereotypes of its own genre. The film, which hit theaters Wednesday, follows Natalie (played by Rebel Wilson), a New York architect who grew up idolizing Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman,” but has discovered that finding real-life love is nothing like it appears in the movies.  Knocked unconscious after being mugged on the subway, Natalie wakes up to find herself living in an alternate universe that looks an awful lot like, well, a romantic comedy. Suddenly, she’s got an enviable apartment, a to-die-for wardrobe and even a hunky love interest (Liam Hemsworth).   Jones stars as Donny, Natalie’s r...

‘Queer Eye’ Stars Announce Season 3 Premiere Date On Netflix

The five stars of “Queer Eye” are kicking off their much-anticipated third season with a little help from Carly Rae Jepsen.  On Wednesday, Netflix dropped a new teaser for their popular makeover series that features a snippet of Jepsen’s new single, “Now That I Found You.”  Season Three, which will begin streaming on Netflix March 15, sees the “Queer Eye” guys ― Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Antoni Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness ― making their way to Kansas City, Missouri.  “Queer Eye” creator David Collins told The Hollywood Reporter last year that his Midwestern background made him feel personally committed to bringing the show to Kansas City.  “I’m a Midwestern kid. I was born and raised in Cincinnati,” he said. “Honestly, I think [this region] was the next step. We looked at al...

British actress Lena Headey channeled the ruthless character that she portrays in HBO’s epic fantasy drama “Game of Thrones” to shut down an Instagram troll on Tuesday. Tomi Ungerer Has Died, But His Frog-Centric Sex Bible Will Live Forever

For years, the late Tomi Ungerer created children’s books and erotica for a fully bifurcated readership. When his worlds collided, children’s librarians were pissed. At an American Library Association conference in 1969, a mob of angry librarians pressured Ungerer on his audacity to create both Hans Christian Andersen Medal-winning kids’ literature and absolutely NSFW smut for adults. Feeling under attack, he lashed out, reportedly yelling back at his critics, “If people didn’t fuck, you wouldn’t have any children, and without children, you would be out of work.” “And that went, of course, very badly,” Ungerer later recounted to The New Yorker. “Especially with the word F-U-C-K.” Ungerer ― who drew everything from children’s books to political posters protesting fascism to erotica ― died o...

Pete Davidson Covers Tattoo That Matched Ariana Grande’s With ‘Cursed’

Pete Davidson apparently thinks he’s cursed. The “Saturday Night Live” star was tagged in a photo on Instagram this week in an image featuring a neck tattoo that reads, “CURSED.” Notably, the location of the new ink is on top of an old tattoo the comedian got with ex-fiancée Ariana Grande. The duo had both gotten tattoos on the back of their necks that read “mille tendresse,” a French phrase that translates to “a thousand tendernesses.” Davidson’s (and Grande’s) tattoo artist, Jon Mesa, shared the revealing snapshot on Saturday in an effort to show off the Tootsie Pop owl tattoo he’d just drawn on Davidson. Reps for the “SNL” star didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment about the coverup on his neck. Over the course of their five-month dalliance, Grande and Davidson got a handful...

Liam Hemsworth Got Sick So Miley Cyrus Attended His Movie Premiere Instead

Miley Cyrus soldiered the red carpet alone without husband Liam Hemsworth twice in a matter of days, but this time she’s doing it in his place.  The singer arrived solo on Monday at the Los Angeles premiere of Hemsworth’s new film “Isn’t It Romantic,” the anti-romantic comedy starring Rebel Wilson, while the actor recovers from a recent hospital stay.  Hemsworth was reportedly hospitalized over the weekend in the middle of the film’s press tour after he was diagnosed with kidney stones, forcing him to skip the Grammys festivities on Sunday night.  Cyrus charged on ahead, however, showing up to the premiere on his behalf and rocking an eye-catching red Valentino gown she paired with a bold red lip and high ponytail.  The former Disney star flooded her Instagram with photos from the night, e...

Samantha Bee Announces Another Full-On Roast Of ‘Motherf**ker’ Donald Trump

Comedy may not be on the menu at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. But Samantha Bee promised it won’t be in short supply at the alternative “Not The White House Correspondents’ Dinner” gala, which airs on TBS the same night — April 27. Oh, and “hamberders will be served” too, per a statement released by the network Monday. “Full Frontal” host Bee called out the WHCA for not having “the balls to face a comedian” in a trailer for the event. Check it out here: The actual correspondents’ association this year opted to invite presidential biographer Ron Chernow, and not a comedian as it has done in previous years, to be its featured speaker. It followed right-wing outrage over comedian Michelle Wolf’s speech in 2018. Trump has not attended the official dinner during hi...

Grammys Omitted R&B Legend Reggie Lucas From In Memoriam Segment, Drawing Outrage

Among many achievements, the late R&B and jazz legend Reggie Lucas played in Miles Davis’ touring band, composed hit songs and produced Madonna’s debut album.  But during Sunday night’s broadcast of the Grammy Awards, he was missing from the “In Memoriam” segment, sparking criticism from fans and viewers — including his daughter Lisa, the executive director of the National Book Foundation. She tweeted that she was “fully offended” and “so enraged” that “the Grammys forgot” her Grammy-winning father. I feel some kind of way that the Grammys forgot my dad, a Grammy winner, in the In Memoriam section. I’m actually fully offended. — Lisa Lucas (@likaluca) February 11, 2019 I’m still so enraged by this. Maybe moreso this morning. — Lisa Lucas (@likaluca) February 11, 2019 Other ...

Cardi B Becomes First Solo Woman To Win Grammy Award For Best Rap Album

The Grammys like Cardi B and she likes it like that.  The Bronx-born rapper made history at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday night by picking up the trophy for Best Rap Album, becoming the first solo female rapper to do so in the category’s 20-plus year history. Lauryn Hill won as a member of the hip-hop group Fugees in 1997. It’s not like Cardi B even needed the award given how she’d already shut down the red carpet in a vintage couture gown, followed by a show-stopping performance of her new single “Money.” But nothing could compare to the raw emotion she showed in her acceptance speech.  Besting fellow nominees Nipsey Hussle, Pusha T, Travis Scott and the late Mac Miller, the clearly shocked rapper took the stage to deliver a peak Cardi speech.  Why yes our girls @chloexhalle DID get th...
