Gary Clark Jr. Gets Angry And Blunt About Race Relations In ‘This Land’

Gary Clark Jr. isn’t holding back on “This Land,” his new single and the title track from his upcoming studio album. In the song, released Thursday, the singer-guitarist gets candid about race and growing up as a black man in America, singing, “I see you looking out your window / Can’t wait to call the police on me.”  Oh, and he’s angry, too. But that’s not where this track began. It started with a simple beat that Clark came up with while working on music in Los Angeles.  “I was messing around, and I came across this Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings sample … and I was chopping it up and mixing it around. I was doing headphone projects because my wife was super pregnant at the time and my son sleeping. We were in a small place in LA. I couldn’t do it like I was at home and turn my guitar up....

Lady Gaga Apologizes For Song With R. Kelly, Vows To Pull It Off The Market

Gaga, 32, shared a lengthy note on Twitter to say sorry for her “poor judgment when I was young” in working with Kelly on the 2013 song “Do What U Want (With My Body).” They performed the song together on “Saturday Night Live”:  Gaga, herself a victim of a sexual assault when she was 19, said the allegations made against Kelly were “absolutely horrifying and indefensible.” She also announced plans to “remove this song off of iTunes and other streaming platforms” and vowed never to work with him again.

‘Pose’ Star Billy Porter Vows To ‘Love The Pain Away’ In Heartfelt New Video

Actor, singer and gender-fluid fashion icon Billy Porter aims to send an all-inclusive message of compassion with a new music video.  The Golden Globe-nominated star of “Pose” joined forces with YouTube personality Michael Korte for a heartfelt interpretation of “Love the Pain Away,” released Monday. Porter says in the clip that he first wrote the song in the days after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre but believes its sentiment is “still necessary today.”  The “Love the Pain Away” video is part of Korte’s “One Take” video series, which features musical performances shot in a single take. Earlier installments have featured artists such as Mykal Kilgore and MJ Rodriguez.  Best known for his viral Beyoncé-“Hamilton” mashup, “#HAM4BEY,” Korte praised Porter ― who nabbed a Tony Award in...

Axl Rose Releases First Song In 10 Years — With The Looney Tunes

It’s been over a decade since Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose released any new music, the last being the band’s “Chinese Democracy” from 2008. So his latest release is… unexpected. Even though Rose has recently been touring with members of the old GNR lineup including Slash and Duff McKagan, he temporarily traded them in for animated bandmates in a new song, “Rock the Rock.” The tune appears in a promo for the Boomerang show “New Looney Tunes.” In the video, which the network says features the singing of the actual Axl Rose, the music legend joins Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and company to stop an approaching asteroid with nothing but the power of rock. Sure, it’s a little cheesy, but if you can’t smile even a little bit at the video above, we’d guess your heart is made of stone. Because i...

Lady Gaga Galvanizes Fans In Cyber-Max Enigma Concert In Vegas Residency Debut

Audience members immediately tracked songs and costumes on social media as Gaga floated onto the stage (over Katy Perry) in the Park Theater of the Monte Carlo Hotel. Just hours earlier the singer had released an intriguing anime preview of Enigma with a Gaga avatar (up top).  “What’s happening to me?” the Gaga avatar asks in the preview clip before an alien creature responds: “Hello Gaga.”  The preview appears to resurrect PetGa, an “alien” interface of an app that generated users’ auras that appeared alongside Gaga’s 2013 ArtPop album. The scene is recreated and expanded on stage in the Enigma debut. The show rocked the highlights of the clip, mixing anime with cyber alien, topped off with borg-like outer space costumes, killer choreography and Gaga vocals. Songs included “The Edge of Gl...

Montana Lawmaker Wants ‘Hippy Hippy Shake’ To Be State’s Official Rock Song

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Montana has a state song, a state ballad and a state lullaby. And, for goodness sake, Democratic Rep. Jacob Bachmeier of Havre would like to see the 2019 Legislature declare the “Hippy Hippy Shake” Montana’s official rock and roll song. It was written in 1959 by Chan Romero when he was a 17-year-old student at Billings Senior High School. Romero, who now lives in Southern California, tells the Great Falls Tribune his song has been featured in seven or eight movies and has been recorded by about 20 groups, including The Beatles. He says he’d be proud to have his song honored by the Legislature. The bill’s introduction borrows from the song’s lyrics in saying: “WHEREAS, Montanans shake it to the left and shake it to the right and do everything with all of their might.” _...

Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Looks Like It Just Broke Another Record

Mariah Carey’s popular Christmas hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is still a holiday juggernaut decades after its release.  The song from Carey’s 1994 album “Merry Christmas” soared to the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s global top 200 chart on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Carey’s modern classic had 10.8 million streams on Monday, according to the streaming service. That’s more than the 10.4 million times listeners streamed “SAD!” by the late rapper XXXTentacion on June 19, the day after he was killed. That had been a single-day record for Spotify, Billboard reported at the time. Spotify did not immediately confirm whether Carey holds the new record. The Grammy-winning singer couldn’t seem to believe the news. “Wait… What?!” Carey wrote on Twitter. Wait… What?! 😳😳😳 https://t.c...

Rihanna Tells Fans Her New Album Will Drop In 2019

Rihanna bestowed her fans with an early holiday treat on Friday when she teased the release date for her new album.  “2019,” the “Work” singer wrote in response to a fan’s Instagram question about when her new album would be dropping. She did not elaborate. Rihanna’s last studio album “Anti” was released in 2016. Screenshot/Instagram Rihanna’s vocal producer Kuk Harrell revealed earlier this month that the singer’s new music is “amazing.” “It’s incredible,” he told fans during an Instagram Live segment. “And that’s all I’m going to say.”

The Agony And Ecstasy Of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Both Sides Now,’ An Inescapable Soundtrack Song

Behind every great love story is a great song. Welcome to HuffPost’s Rom-Com Week. In June, “Hereditary” became one of the year’s signature horror hits, chronicling a grieving family whose trauma unleashes demonic frights upon their affluent existence. The two-hour film begins as a gradual shiver and ends as a steadfast nightmare. But when “Hereditary” finally fades to black, a cheery harpsichord offers a respite from the darkness. It’s the same harpsichord that, five months later, furnished the music for, of all things, the first “Toy Story 4″ teaser. It’s reasonable to assume the newest “Toy Story” installment, which revolves around a kid-friendly road trip, couldn’t be more different from “Hereditary.” And yet they are now inexorably linked, along with a host of other movies and TV show...

Vladimir Putin Makes Moves To Control Rap Music In Russia

MOSCOW (AP) — Alarmed by the growing popularity of rap among Russian youth, President Vladimir Putin wants cultural leaders to devise a means of controlling, rather than banning, the popular music. Putin says “if it is impossible to stop, then we must lead it and direct it.” But Putin said at a Kremlin meeting with cultural advisers Saturday that attempts to ban artists from performing will have an adverse effect and bolster their popularity. Putin noted that “rap is based on three pillars: sex, drugs and protest.” But he is particularly concerned with drug themes prevalent in rap, saying “this is a path to the degradation of the nation.” He said “drug propaganda” is worse than cursing. Putin’s comments come amid a crackdown on contemporary music that evoked Soviet-era censorship of the ar...

Ariana Grande And Miley Cyrus Dismiss Kanye West’s Twitter Feud With A ‘Thank U, Next’

Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus would kindly like to be removed from Kanye West’s social media narrative.  The two singers banded together on Thursday night as they each prepared to drop eagerly awaited singles, sending a clear message that they won’t be overshadowed by the rapper’s umpteenth Twitter tirade.  West ignited a social media storm against Drake for allegedly threatening his family with even wife Kim Kardashian jumping in to declare that her husband is the “most genius person I know.” Cue Grande telling the two rappers to “behave for just like a few hours” so fans could enjoy the new tracks without the background noise of their ongoing beef.  “guys, i know there are grown men arguing online rn but miley and i dropping our beautiful, new songs tonight so if y’all could please jus b...
